Liverpool return to Premier League action this afternoon when they welcome Southampton to Anfield. This afternoon’s fixture is Liverpool’s last before the pause in club football for the World Cup - which starts next Sunday in Qatar.
The Reds come into the game on the back of a Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory over Derby County on Wednesday night. Jurgen Klopp’s side also claimed all three points in their
last Premier League outing against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
James Milner is back in contention for this afternoon’s game, while Joel Matip has also been involved in training this week following a spell on the sidelines. Luis Diaz and Naby Keita are continuing their recoveries from injury, while Diogo Jota and Arthur Melo remain longer-term absentees.
Liverpool are currently eighth in the Premier League table, seven points off the top four places, with Southampton in 18th place.
