Hair becomes thicker and 9 more myths about shaving that are not true at all

Shaving won't thin the hair like waxing, but it won't make it darker or thicker either.

Although the results don't last long, shaving is a quick and painless way to remove hair.

Whether it's because they're in a hurry or simply don't want to suffer the pain of waxing, many girls and women remove hair by shaving.

But since it is a very popular hair removal treatment, it is normal that there are various myths about it.

Which shaving myths should you not believe?

Myth 1: After shaving, hair grows back darker and thicker

The density, color and thickness of hair depends on several factors, such as your genes and hormones in the body.

But shaving has no effect on these features. That is, shaving alone cannot make the hair thicker or darker or denser.

Shaving cannot create new skin follicles or change the hair structure which depends on your genes.

The hairs only appear thicker because with the razor you remove their tip, which is thinner, so that the middle, thicker part is visible.

Myth 2: It's easier to cut with a sharp razor than with a blunt one

This is not true at all. While a new, sharp razor will easily remove the hair in one stroke, if the razor is blunt, you'll need to use more pressure.

And this is exactly what increases the risk of cutting.

Myth 3: You need to push for better results

If you press too hard on the skin with the razor, you will not see better results, you will only increase the risk of cutting yourself.

If the razor is sharp, it is enough to go over the surface of the skin with minimal pressure.

Myth 4: Daily shaving is bad for the skin

Unless you have very sensitive skin, daily shaving will not cause you any problems.

You should only use some shaving cream or foam to reduce the risk of irritation.

Myth 5: If you're going to an event, shave the day before

After shaving, the hair starts growing the next day.

Which means, if you have an important event tomorrow, and you shave today, by tomorrow you'll already feel the sting.

Well, feel free to shave your legs on the day of the event.

Myth 6: Only shaving causes ingrown hairs

Both shaving and waxing can cause ingrown hairs.

To avoid this, it is recommended to exfoliate the skin before shaving or depilation, but also to apply lotion after every shower.

Myth 7: Just use soap and water to shave

If you only use soap and water, you increase the risk of irritation.

Shaving creams and gels soften hairs and maintain skin moisture, thereby reducing irritation.

Myth 8: It's OK to borrow someone else's razor

As with other personal hygiene items, you don't even need to borrow razors.

Myth 9: Shaving dries out the skin

In fact, shaving can remove dead cells from the top layer of skin and make it softer.

Of course, dryness is also possible, but only if you don't use shaving creams or body lotion.

Myth 10: You should change your razor every week

This depends on the razor itself.

Better quality razors can last for several weeks, while lower quality razors can be unusable after only 2-3 uses.

It is recommended to change the razor when you notice that the blades are dull or when the rubbers are damaged.
